Well, these past years have certainly been something of a rollercoaster… There’s been good times (mentioning no names*) and there’s been bad times (mentioning no names*) and there’s been some drunken times (mentioning no names*).
Good luck with all your future endeavors. The DC days were by far my happiest to date, and I’m sure that was in no small part down to you. I mean, who else could organise a piss up in Venice quite such style? I’m sure it’ll never be the same since DC hit it, either!
I’ll be checking on your blog frequently to see how you’re getting along, so keep it updated regularly! And make sure you get back to Soho, or wherever we’ll be, as often as possible as well – I’m sure the Riviera can spare you for an evening of drinks or two
It really won’t be the same with out you. We’ll miss the authoritative “CAN I HAVE A WORD” requests, the last minute rush to the trains and planes with myself and colleagues always 4 steps behind. I’ve never know a man to walk so fast!
Thank you so much for the numerous opportunities you’ve given me over the last 4 years. Good luck in your new adventure. Keep the blog updated so we can track your progress and figure out the best time to come drink your vino.
Splendid to have worked with you. I’ll always remember our wonderful company beano to Venice, especially the gondolas, the oysters, me having to placate the local police after all the complaints from the residents of Venice about our raucous behaviour…
I hope you find much happiness ahead with vast quantities of wine flowing freely in all senses of the phrase!
Thanks for sorting out trips to Venice and other such excursions …and for keeping me employed despite having one too many on most of the DC nights out!
Hope you enjoy your time off and let us know when you’re back in town
Can’t believe there’s going to be no more early morning sprints for the 7.36am St Pancras train, with my wee legs aching whilst running to keep up with you (I made that train once, and you insisted we travel first class as my reward!).
Thanks for your support over the years, particularly in inviting me back to DC despite my leaving first time round!
“In vino veritas” – it looks like you’re on track to being of the most veracious fellows… though we’ll still be competing with you heavily back here in London, no doubt!
I wish you the best for all your journeys, oenophilic and otherwise…
thanks for everything. You’ve been the best boss I could have hoped for. Over the last year you’ve always given us just the right support to move things forward.
Your attention to the less interesting aspects of ’spreadsheets’ kept us going in good times and bad and let the rest of us just get on with it. And when we got it wrong you were there to help push us back in the right direction.
And who can forget those trips to the west coast of Scotland and Venice.
You really will be missed. Bounding up the stairs at Rawstorne, broad smile and booming voice, all having just got off the flight from Edinburgh and still been in the office half an hour before anyone else…
with such infectious enthusiasm and such a zest for life behind it I’m sure Chateau Valpy will be a roaring success.
Thank you for hiring my invisible husband!
I’m so glad that you are becoming a professional wine person. Very fancy indeed. Good luck to you and the beautiful Fiona.
Give us a shout if you are ever on our side of the Atlantic.

Dear Rupert…. well the time has finally come for you to leave us and fulfill that dream of owning a ‘wine farm’.
I will certainly miss your stories and laughter, this place won’t be the same without you.
Best of luck to you and Fiona, let me know if you’re ever hiring grape-pickers or I’m also particularly good at sampling wine!

Dear Rupert
Thanks for all the support over the years and for enduring the odd late night rant. And for enduring the odd daytime rant. And email rants. Um…
Thanks also for colouring in the spreadsheets. They really are much easier to read when colour coded.
Thanks too for all the office-moving tips. I shall pass your technique for boardroom table moving down to my children. On a rope. Out of a window.
All the best for your great adventure. Do let us know when your first batch is ready for sampling.
Best of luck
Phil

Hey Rupert,
Thanks for being a great boss and being so good to myself and the rest of the crew.
Also thanks for the riotous trip to Venice – great craic had by all with you at the very centre of the mayhem!
I look forward to picking up a bottle of Chateau Valpy for £2.99 with a screw cap in Tesco (only joking!).
All the best for the future,
Phil

But it’s been fun.
Thanks for not firing me along the way!!

Hi Rupes.
After nearly four years working together, I’m so sorry to be missing your send off. Where is it again – Spearmint Rhino?
I too shall miss your clever moving methods and your ever embarrassing birthday cards.
Hope to see you in South Africa. Robbie and I will come prepared for grape stomping!

I’m devastated. The only other person in the company who likes spreadsheets is leaving! What will I do without you?
Thanks for steering us down the right road over the last 8 (9 for you) years – you’ve done a fantastic job, and we’ve come out rosy at the other end.
I know you’ll miss us, but we’ll miss you more.

Hey Roops,
Cheers for everything and pop back for a game of Poker.
Hope to be a refined man of style myself one day
Enjoy the farm!

*waves*!
Are farmyard animals the same as wine-farm animals? I think you should get some ducks.
Smiley wishes, hope you have a lot of fun

A job well done! Things’ll not be same without you – truly the end of an era.
I wish you and Fiona much happiness in your future adventures – looking forward to tasting Valpy AOC!
